In a significant verdict in a four-year-old murder case, a court in Rudrapur has sentenced Nadeem, a resident of Ward No. 7, Kichha, to life imprisonment for the murder of Mohammad Ashiq. The Third Additional Sessions Judge, Rudrapur, Mukesh Chandra Arya, pronounced the verdict on September 10, 2026, in Sessions Trial No. 45 of 2022. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional one-year imprisonment in case of default.
The case dates back to November 18, 2021, when an altercation reportedly broke out at an agricultural market in Kichha. According to the FIR, Ashiq was allegedly attacked after he objected to three persons placing a platform in front of his workplace. He was taken to hospital in a seriously injured condition, where he subsequently died. The FIR was registered at Kichha police station under Sections 307 and 504 of the IPC.
Following investigation, police filed a chargesheet against Nadeem and invoked Sections 302, 34, 504 and 506 of the IPC. The court ultimately held Nadeem guilty under Section 302 read with Section 34 IPC, while acquitting him of the charges under Sections 504 and 506 for lack of sufficient proof. The judgment also directed that the period already spent in custody be set off against the sentence as per law.
