Delhi Police on Thursday registered an FIR against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi for allegedly assaulting police personnel and obstructing government work during their protest in Delhi.

The FIR also names several Congress leaders and workers who took part in the protest on Wednesday. Police are examining the allegations and the role of those involved, PTI reported citing sources.

Police said that 91 people were detained on Wednesday, including several MPs and political leaders.

Police stopped the bus of the protesters while they were heading in buses for a surprise sit-in at Jantar Mantar after a lunch meeting at Janpath.

Priyanka and other women leaders lay on the road, clutching a copy of the Constitution, and were forcefully removed and taken into police buses amid sloganeering by opposition members, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

MPs of the Congress, TMC, CPI-M, CPI, RJD, IUML and some other parties were among the protesters.
