Dehradun: In a bid to enhance crime prevention and identification of offenders, the Uttarakhand Police will actively utilize the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) developed by the National Crime Records Bureau. The advanced portal has significantly expedited criminal investigations and resolution of cases.
According to DIG Police and Coordination Senthil Abudei Krishnaraj S, the state police have uploaded detailed criminal records—termed “horoscopes”—for 7,666 offenders this year. “Last year, we prepared criminal profiles for 10,685 arrested individuals. With the newly integrated ‘Laugh Form 3’ on NAFIS, complete offender details are now accessible with a single click,” DIG Krishnaraj S said.
Since its implementation, over 18,000 criminal profiles have been recorded in the state. This database is proving instrumental not only for Uttarakhand but also for police forces across other states. The centralized platform allows seamless sharing of data, enabling inter-state collaboration in cracking cases.
“NAFIS has revolutionized how we track habitual offenders. It has bridged gaps in coordination between police units,” said Arjun Singh, a senior investigator in Dehradun.
“This initiative is a game-changer,” said Ramesh Rawat, a school teacher in Rudrapur. “The system will undoubtedly help combat crime by quickly identifying repeat offenders and deterring criminal activities. It gives us confidence in the police’s ability to maintain law and order.”
