In a significant step toward enhancing public safety, especially for women and children, the Udham Singh Nagar district police have launched a campaign promoting the installation of dash cameras in vehicles at Deendayal Chowk in district headquarters, Rudrapur, on Monday. District’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manikant Mishra led the campaign on the first day and said that this initiative would soon expand across all police station jurisdictions in the district.
The initiative, part of the district’s broader focus on traffic management and public safety, aims to ensure the safety of passengers, particularly women and children, and protect their belongings. It also seeks to document road conditions to analyze and mitigate accident causes effectively. Currently, dash cameras have been installed in 30 buses and 18 taxis and the police plan to expand the campaign.
Speaking at the launch, SSP Mishra said, “Dash cameras are an essential tool for ensuring passenger safety and will act as a deterrent against unlawful activities. They also provide critical evidence in the event of road mishaps or criminal incidents.”
The event also featured a traffic chaupal to educate citizens about road safety and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
Rudrapur City Traders’ Union President, Sanjay Juneja said, “Dash cameras are a game-changer. They not only enhance women’s safety but also instill accountability among drivers. This effort by the police is commendable and much-needed.”
Union’s Secretary Sandeep Rao said, “The campaign is a positive step from the police for road safety. This will help safer travel experiences and improved traffic discipline in the district”.
