Rudrapur: In a significant step towards strengthening access to specialised cancer care in the region, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, on Friday launched medical oncology OPD services at Narayan Hospital in Rudrapur, bringing expert consultation closer to patients in Udham Singh Nagar and adjoining areas.

The newly introduced service was inaugurated in the presence of Dr Chandragouda Dodagoudar, Senior Director and Unit Head, Department of Medical Oncology at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, and Dr Raja Chhabra, Associate Consultant, Department of Medical Oncology. Dr Pradeep Adlakha, senior orthopaedic surgeon and director at Narayan Hospital, was also present on the occasion.

Under the newly launched facility, Dr Dodagoudar and Dr Chhabra will be available at Narayan Hospital on the first and third Friday of every month from 11 am to 1 pm to provide consultation for cancer patients. The initiative is expected to help patients access expert advice, initial diagnosis and follow-up consultations locally, reducing the need for them to travel to metro cities for specialised treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chandragouda Dodagoudar said that the rising number of cancer cases has made timely diagnosis and specialised treatment increasingly important.

“Cancer cases are increasing rapidly and each type of cancer presents different challenges in treatment. Depending on the type and stage of the disease, patients may experience symptoms such as persistent cough or hoarseness of voice, difficulty in swallowing, constipation or diarrhoea, unusual lumps in the body, bleeding between menstrual cycles, sudden weight loss, extreme fatigue and changes in the skin,” he said.

He added that the newly launched OPD services aim to guide patients with the right counselling and treatment options at an early stage.

“Through these OPD services, our objective is to provide patients with access to advanced treatment options, proper counselling and compassionate care so that they receive the best possible support throughout their cancer treatment journey,” he said.

Dr Raja Chhabra, Associate Consultant in the Department of Medical Oncology at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, said the hospital offers advanced and personalised cancer treatment supported by modern diagnostic technologies.

“At BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, patients receive precision-based chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy along with the latest molecular diagnostic facilities. This allows doctors to design treatment plans according to the type and stage of the disease for each patient,” he said.

He further added that cancer cases are discussed in multidisciplinary tumour board meetings, where experts from different specialities collectively evaluate each case to provide comprehensive, evidence-based and patient-centric care.

Hospital officials said that apart from offering advanced treatment facilities, the institution also aims to spread awareness about cancer so that people seek timely screening and treatment. With modern infrastructure and a patient-centric approach, the hospital strives not only to extend patients’ life expectancy but also to improve their quality of life.
