In a move aimed at promoting sustainable living and community welfare, a resident of Omaxe Colony has launched a unique initiative encouraging the scientific disposal of waste and the redistribution of usable resources among the underprivileged.
As part of the campaign, three dedicated collection units have been installed within the residential complex for plastic bottles and cans, electronic waste, and reusable clothing.
The bottle-shaped collection unit has been designed to encourage residents to dispose of used plastic bottles and beverage cans responsibly. The initiative seeks to reduce littering and increase awareness about recycling at the household level.
A second unit, designed in the shape of a mobile phone, has been earmarked for e-waste collection. Residents can deposit discarded chargers, batteries, electrical accessories and other obsolete electronic items, helping prevent hazardous waste from entering the environment.
The third collection point focuses on social outreach. Residents have been urged to donate wearable clothes that are no longer in use. The donated garments will be distributed among economically weaker sections, extending the benefits of the campaign beyond environmental conservation.
The initiative has been spearheaded by Omaxe resident Yogesh Lamba, who said that sustainable communities are built through collective participation rather than individual efforts alone.
Residents have welcomed the move, describing it as a practical example of how housing societies can contribute to environmental responsibility while addressing social needs at the grassroots level.
With increasing concerns over waste management and urban sustainability, the initiative is being viewed as a model that could inspire similar community-driven efforts in other residential colonies across the city.
