Pantnagar. The two-day 66th Research Advisory Committee meeting was organized by the Directorate of Research of the University at the College of Technology under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Manmohan Singh Chauhan. The objective of the meeting was to review the research work being carried out by scientists under various projects and to develop future plans for the benefit of agriculture and allied sectors in Uttarakhand.
During the two-day meeting, a total of 59 research projects were presented across 9 technical sessions by the respective Project Investigators, along with suggestions for future research activities. More than 150 project coordinators and project officers of the University presented the progress of research work carried out over the past year.
The members of the Research Advisory Committee included Dr. Triveni Dutt, Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly; Dr. Dheer Singh, Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal; Dr. M. Madhu, Director, Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun; Dr. Laxmikant, Director, Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora; Dr. Arvind Bijalwan, Dean, Bharsar University; Dr. Y.P.S. Malik, Joint Director, IVRI Mukteshwar; and Dr. Prem Kumar, Principal Scientist, Fisheries Division, ICAR, New Delhi. The members reviewed the research programs presented by scientists and provided valuable suggestions.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Manmohan Singh Chauhan emphasized the dissemination of research outcomes to farmers through extension centres. He also stressed the need for research focused on solving the problems of hill agriculture and farmers. During the presentations, Dr. Dheer Singh suggested that the University should strive to establish Centres of Excellence for research in agriculture and allied fields. Dr. Triveni Dutt emphasized Next Generation Agriculture for “Developed India 2047” and stressed that research should be aligned with market demand. Dr. M. Madhu suggested conducting quality research with limited budgets and recommended preparing an annual achievement report of all departments along with departmental-level reviews. Dr. Laxmikant emphasized improving research quality and suggested planning and executing research with a five-year roadmap. Dr. Arvind Bijalwan, Dean, Bharsar, stressed the publication of high-quality research papers and undertaking ecosystem service–based research. At the beginning of the program, the Director of Research, Dr. S.K. Verma, presented a detailed report on research activities conducted during the past year and outlined the roadmap for the coming year.
All Deans, Directors, Controller, Chief Personnel Officer, Registrar, and other senior officers of the University participated in the program. At the conclusion of the event, a vote of thanks was presented by Joint Director of Research Dr. P.K. Singh and Dr. Manjul Kandpal.
