The first Mini and 7th Sub-Junior, Junior, Cadet, and Senior State Fencing Championship was आयोजित with grandeur at Delhi Public School, Rudrapur on May 3, 2026. The event was conducted under the aegis of the Fencing Association of Uttarakhand and the Fencing Association of India (FAI), witnessing participation from over 150 players representing various districts across the state.
Tej Ram Baghel, Managing Director of Jai Hind Autotech, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among the distinguished guests were Pankaj Shukla, Treasurer of Udham Singh Nagar, Janki Karki, District Sports Officer, Udham Singh Nagar, and Inspector Girish Chandra Joshi, Gymnastics Coach with Uttarakhand Police. Surjit Singh Grover, Chairman of DPS Rudrapur and President of the Fencing Association of Uttarakhand, attended as mentor, along with Harman Singh Grover, Vice Chairman, DPS Rudrapur, and the school principal.
Addressing the gathering, Baghel appreciated DPS Rudrapur for providing multiple sports facilities under one roof, stating that such infrastructure would enable students to excel in sports and reach greater heights. He highlighted the importance of discipline, sportsmanship, and healthy competition, and lauded the organisers for hosting a well-managed and grand event.
In his message, Grover emphasized that fencing, being a highly technical and disciplined sport, plays a crucial role in personality development. “It enhances agility, mental focus, decision-making ability, confidence, and leadership skills. Such competitive platforms lay the foundation for future national and international athletes,” he said, congratulating all participants and winners.
Competitions were held in épée, foil, and sabre categories, with players from cities including Kashipur, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital, and Almora showcasing remarkable skill and sportsmanship.

Vaishnavi clinched gold in foil (girls), while Aditya topped foil (boys). Rajshi and Rachit Singh secured first positions in sabre (girls and boys), respectively. In épée, Evelyn (girls) and Rudra Joshi (boys) emerged winners.
Sub-Junior Category:
Sarthak Jain (Rudrapur) won gold in foil (boys), while Prisha Shukla topped foil (girls). Aarma secured first position in épée (girls). Ayushman Bhatt (sabre boys) and Gunjan Rajpurohit (sabre girls) finished on top.
Cadet Category:
Aniruddh Dabbarwal (sabre boys) and Akanksha Rathore (sabre girls) secured gold medals.
Junior Category:
Shruti (foil girls) and Aditya Thapliyal (foil boys) clinched top honours. Vansh Rathore and Akanksha Rathore dominated sabre events.
Senior Category:
Shaurya Geharwal (foil boys) and Shanaya Best (foil girls) secured gold medals. Lalit Singh (épée boys) and Iti Chaudhary (épée girls) emerged winners. Tanroop Kaur (sabre girls) and Arushi Bansal (sabre boys) topped their categories.
Throughout the championship, participants displayed exceptional discipline, technical excellence, and true sporting spirit. The winners were felicitated by the dignitaries, who extended their best wishes for their future endeavours.
The school management and organising committee expressed gratitude to all participants, coaches, and supporters for contributing to the success of the event.
